After the close — a Singapore finance desk, cleared for the next filing cycle
Why the company was started
Singapore SMEs operate under a compliance regime that most accounting software was not designed around first. GST F5 filing, InvoiceNow, and the practical reality of multi-currency trade with regional suppliers all shape what the software needs to do — and in which order it needs to do it.
The founders' view was that a Singapore-focused product, supported locally, would serve these businesses better than a global platform configured for the local market after the fact. That is the position Aelstrom was built from, and it decides what gets prioritized on the roadmap when requests compete for the same quarter.
It also decides what we say no to. A product that tries to be everything to every market ends up shallow in the one place its customers live, and Singapore compliance is not a shallow area.
Built for the local regime
- GST F5 filing works the way IRAS expects it, not as an afterthought export.
- InvoiceNow e-invoicing is part of the sales and purchase flow, not a bolt-on module.
- Multi-currency bookkeeping assumes regional suppliers and customers from day one.
What we focus on
The product centers on the accounting loop. Everything else is either adjacent or out of scope, and we try to be plain about which is which so buyers can decide quickly.
Core
Sales and purchase entry
Invoices, credit notes and supplier bills recorded against the right tax code from the start, so the GST return is a review rather than a reconstruction.
In scope
Core
Bank reconciliation
Import bank statements, match against recorded transactions, and clear the remainder deliberately. Unmatched lines stay visible until someone resolves them.
In scope
Core
Multi-currency bookkeeping
SGD books with USD, MYR, EUR or other foreign-currency transactions, revalued on the schedule you set rather than one we assume.
In scope
Core
GST treatment and reporting
GST codes on every transaction, a reviewable F5 position, and reports an accountant can pick up without a separate mapping exercise.
In scope
Core
InvoiceNow e-invoicing
Send and receive InvoiceNow documents as part of normal invoicing, so adoption does not depend on a separate tool or a second data entry step.
In scope
Not us
Payroll and corporate secretarial
We deliberately do not run payroll, act as your corporate secretary, or position the platform as an enterprise financial management suite.
Out of scope
The typical customer
Who we build for
The typical Aelstrom customer is a Singapore SME with a handful of staff, a real GST obligation, and someone running the books part-time or alongside other work. They may have an external accountant for filing, or handle it in-house.
They are usually moving off spreadsheets or a desktop accounting product that no longer matches how they work. They want the software to hold the structure that keeps them compliant without needing a finance specialist to operate it day to day.
Books kept part-time, alongside other work — the workflow the platform is sized for.
How we approach support
Support is direct and local. Phone and email during Singapore business hours, answered by people who know the workflows.
When a question is about GST treatment or InvoiceNow, it goes to someone who deals with those areas rather than being relayed through a first-line script. That matters most in the weeks around a filing deadline, when a wrong answer costs more than a slow one.
We also answer questions about fit honestly. If your requirements point to a different category of product — payroll, corporate secretarial work, an enterprise suite — we will say so. A customer who chose the wrong tool is worse for everyone than a conversation that ended early.
-
Phone during business hours
For anything time-sensitive — a filing question, a reconciliation that will not clear, an InvoiceNow document that failed to send.
-
Email for anything that needs a record
Registration details for procurement, access changes, or a written answer you can forward to your accountant or auditor.
-
A straight answer on fit
If Aelstrom is not the right tool for your setup, we would rather tell you in the first conversation than after an implementation.
Where we sit in the market
The wider Singapore market
Singapore's cloud accounting market is mature. Global platforms maintain local presences, Singapore-focused vendors build for the compliance regime, and corporate services firms bundle software with bookkeeping, payroll and IRAS-facing support.
Buyers weigh the same things across all of them: whether the software handles GST properly, whether it is InvoiceNow-ready, how bank feeds and multi-currency behave, and whether support is reachable when something goes wrong at month end.
What buyers compare
- Does GST handling match how IRAS actually expects the return?
- Is InvoiceNow part of the flow, or a separate module to buy?
- Do bank feeds and multi-currency behave on real statements?
- Can you reach a person who knows the workflows?
Aelstrom competes on the last two points as much as the first two. That is a deliberate position, not a claim about being better at everything.
Roadmap
The roadmap follows the compliance calendar and customer requests, in that order.
Where we are going
Changes to GST reporting, InvoiceNow adoption, and the practical problems SMEs raise in support calls shape what gets built next. If a change lands on the compliance calendar, it moves ahead of cosmetic features — there is no version of this where that ordering reverses.
We would rather ship a smaller number of things that work correctly for Singapore filings than a long feature list that needs workarounds. That is a slower approach, and it is the one we have chosen.
If there is something you keep working around in your current setup, tell us. Support calls are where most of the roadmap comes from, and a specific complaint is more useful to us than a general request.
Getting in touch
